Places that no longer exist / Passe-Partout, a nightclub that shone brightly in the late seventies.

Located on a strategic corner of the Zona Rosa, this nightclub lived a few, but intense, years, featuring Princess Lea in a massive champagne glass.
Lugares que ya no existen / Passe-Partout, centro nocturno que resplandeció a fines de los setenta

By Alejandro Pohlenz

Believe it or not, I read as a child. Two authors were my favorites: Emilio Salgari and Jules Verne (1828, France). I was ecstatic with "From the Earth to the Moon," "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea," "The Mysterious Island," and "Around the World in Eighty Days." I don't know if today's children or young people are familiar with the profoundly imaginative work of this extraordinary writer.

Portrait of Jules Verne

This opening ties in marginally with the nightclub we'll discuss today. It turns out that Monsieur Phileas Fogg's companion (the fictional character who circumnavigated the globe in 80 days) was named Jean Passepartout. Passe-Partout means master key or something that grants you access to whatever you desire. It's a place you can enter and enjoy without limitations: the key to fun...

The Birth of This Nightclub

The Passe-Partout nightclub began in the late '70s and quickly died out in the '80s. However, it didn't completely vanish, because it later housed the club "Áfrika" and, in the '90s, Mekano (a club we've already referred to in Food Police).

Princess Lea and Her Champagne Glass

Passe-Partout was located in the Zona Rosa (now, on that corner, there's a sex shop and a cell phone accessory store). They say that Princess Lea (b. 1949) performed there in an enormous champagne glass. (Princess Lea, who is not the one from Star Wars, was born in Montreal, Canada, and is still alive. She is 75 years old.)

The only photograph I could find of Passe-Partout is the one I offer you on the cover of this note.

Long live this master key.
