Museum Restaurants in CDMX / Restaurante Nube 7, on the ground floor of MUAC

On the ground floor of this ultra-modern museum, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner in this bright restaurant, surrounded by the characteristic landscape of El Pedregal de San Ángel.

MUAC (which sounds like a kissing onomatopoeia, "smuack") is an acronym for "Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo" (University Museum of Contemporary Art). It's located within the University Cultural Center, which we mentioned when proudly featuring the Tierra de Iyari restaurant here in Food Police. It opened in 2008. Although it's said that the building "dialogues with the natural environment of Pedregal de San Ángel," in the humble opinion of a non-architect, it clashes a bit (compared to the newspaper library, the Nezahualcóyotl Hall, the theaters, etc.). The architect in charge of MUAC's construction is Teodoro González de León (who also designed, among others, a building nicknamed "El Dorito" in Las Lomas). Harmonious with its surroundings or not, I must point out that it is a sublime building. Judge for yourselves:

What does MUAC present?

MUAC exhibits over 2,100 works by 300 artists. Its emphasis is on creators whose works emerged since 1952, when Ciudad Universitaria (University City) was inaugurated. It features nine exhibition halls, a sound experimentation space, a documentation center, an auditorium and conference room, a shop-bookstore, and a restaurant called Nube Siete.

I'm not sure why it was named that. It's located on the ground floor of MUAC and has a glass floor that allows you to see the volcanic rock. The gigantic windows are delightful, pushing abundant light indoors and offering views of that characteristic landscape of El Pedregal. The head chef is Mr. Luis Emmanuel Gómez Toriz.

What's to Eat?

The menu is extensive and includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There isn't enough space here to list all the delights of Nube Siete. I particularly highlight the cochinita crust (cheese stuffed with cochinita), the puff pastry chile (stuffed with potato and steak), the tuna carpaccio, the crema poblana, and the tropical salad. But, of course, there are also eggs and omelets, fruit, meat, hamburgers, sandwiches, and fantastic "gordolerías" (sweet treats) like the chocolate bomb and the corn cake. I must not forget the chapulín chalupas and the tortilla soup (one of my favorite foods).

  • What we love and you must try: The cochinita crust.
  • What we don't like as much: I'm not a fan of the crema poblana.
