Italian Restaurants in CDMX / Capri, authentic certified Italian restaurant
As if you were in Italy, just a block from Paseo de las Palmas, this restaurant is certified by the Italian Chamber of Commerce.

By Alejandro Pohlenz
I had no idea there was a haunted mansion on Champs-Élysées; nor that for the highest, old-money society in Mexico City during the early decades of the last century, Polanco wasn’t the first choice—colonias Roma or Juárez were preferred. And even less did I know that Presidente Masaryk Street has the highest price per square meter in all of Latin America…
These lines are just to set the stage. Capri, installed in Polanco by a family of Italian immigrants in 1950, was reportedly the first restaurant in the neighborhood (though I couldn’t verify that). The fact is, it has been serving what they themselves describe as “the best traditional Italian food in a classic setting” for 74 years.
Certification of Authenticity
Capri boasts the “Ospitalità Italiana” certification, awarded by the Istituto Nazionale Ricerche Turistiche, which verifies that its food, ingredients, and service are authentically Italian. It doesn’t get more Italian than that… prego! They moved from Polanco to Las Lomas, and now are located next to the Covadonga Church in a cozy spot, just a block from Paseo de las Palmas.
Highlights from the Menu
Here are a few dishes from Capri’s extensive culinary gallery. This is a subjective selection: carpaccio di salmone, calamari fritti, mozzarella di bufala (super authentic). Pastas are homemade—lasagna, gnocchi, cannelloni, linguine, fettuccine—or imported from Italy, like spaghetti marinara, penne giallo zafferano (tubular pasta with clams), or linguine alle vongole, also with clams. There’s risotto—vegetable, mushroom, seafood, salmon, cheese—ravioli (highly recommend the 4 formaggi), and meats. Standouts include ossobuco Capri (veal shank in its jus) and the traditional milanesa.
