Restaurantes en museos CDMX/ Tres Abejas, ubicado en el Museo Soumaya Casa Guillermo Tovar y de Teresa
Installed in the garage of a Porfirian house in Roma Norte, this pleasant little yellow spot offers coffees, drinks, pastries, and proper meals.

By Alejandro Pohlenz
Guillermo Tovar y de Teresa (1956-2013) was a historian, chronicler, and collector. His love for the beloved, troubled, and gigantic city of Mexico was well-known. Among many other works, he wrote a book titled: "The City of Palaces: Chronicle of a Lost Heritage." He lived in a Porfirian mansion in Roma Norte from 1997 until his unfortunate passing. That residence became a museum, and it was Guillermo's niece, Leonora Tovar López Portillo (granddaughter of President José López Portillo), who was in charge of establishing the Tres Abejas Café in the garage. (Leonora is "a Mexican lawyer and businesswoman recognized for her work in human rights protection and her participation in the gastronomic sphere.")
The Original Decoration
The impact upon entering is yellow. The wall features hand-painted flowers, leaves, and branches, along with phrases like: "it is preferable to be old for a shorter time than to be old before old age." (A friend of mine had another: "it's better to become wise before becoming old"). The place, then, is fun, pleasant, enjoyable. I must emphatically highlight that you can go to Tres Abejas even if you don't enter the museum.
The Food
One of the protagonists of the Tres Abejas menu is the "croque monsieur." In my infinite ignorance, I was unfamiliar with this dish. It's a hot French sandwich, made with sliced bread, ham, Gruyère cheese, and covered with béchamel. It's gratinéed in the oven. In my very humble opinion, it's a delight.
Tres Abejas also offers quiche Lorraine, onion soup, chilaquil torta, salmon bagel, and meatballs, and, the best of the best, as Celia Cruz would say: "¡azúuuuucar!" There's carrot cake, chocolate cake, and red velvet. The lemon pie is simply sensational. You can order non-alcoholic beverages, beers, wines, and "eye openers" (i.e., mimosas), have a good time, and read the phrases on the walls. Oh, and there are macarons (those delightful round French treats).
