Taco Guide in CDMX / La Brisa, Champion-Level Barbacoa Flautas and Tripe

There are words that transport us somewhere. For me, it happens with "lonchería"; it takes me to a novella by José Pérez Chowell titled "Mr. Bureaucrat."

"La Brisa" is a place that has remained frozen in time for over 50 years. And, although the sign at the entrance says "taco shop," the truth is that this word does not do justice to the place, which is why beneath the name they make a promise: "Tortas, Tacos, and something more." "La Brisa" is a lonchería in every sense: with its terrazzo tile floors and tiled walls, with wooden booths.

Loncherías became popular in the 70s, when the pace of life in Mexico City began to accelerate and office workers had little time to eat. This explains the variety on the menu at "La Brisa," where they offer tortas, tacos, tostadas de pata, and what captures our affection: flautas de barbacoa and crispy tripe tacos.

Upon entering, we are greeted by a huge wooden barrel with the inscription "Rico Tepache" in one of the classic sign fonts of the capital. The lonchería is a space that reflects the current rhythms of life in the city, and while "La Brisa" may not boast anecdotes of celebrities enjoying tacos, the very logic of the lonchería justifies its existence, and its flavors justify its longevity.
