Expensive Restaurants That Are Worth It / La Cerrajería, Mexican Remnants in the Hands of an Adventurer
In Roma Norte, in a small yet luxurious hotel, is Cerrajería, an amazing restaurant worthy of investigation.
By Alejandro Pohlenz
What do a Mexican chef who, as a child, suffered from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, has a raspy voice, and unquestionable creativity, and a mansion built in the early 20th century with yellow bricks transported from England have in common? What connects the inventor of the secret XO sauce for octopuses with a building once owned by Álvaro Obregón (assassinated in 1928)? What do Chef Armando Acosta, who worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in Spain, and a brothel that later became a locksmith have in common?
Brick Hotel
In December 2019, the Brick Hotel opened its doors, featuring 17 rooms and suites with elegant facilities (the most expensive suite costs around $400). On the ground floor of this hotel (serious, square, masculine, like one of those gentleman's clubs in New York), Chef Armando Acosta established a modern restaurant with a touch of Mexican flair. The menu includes: scallop torta, duck tamal, pork belly BBC-style, grilled fish, cochinita pibil ravioli, and quail in nogada.
Let Yourself Go
It must be admitted that entering this Locksmith requires a golden key; in other words, you need to open your wallet without hesitation because it’s worth it.
