Pizza in Mexico City / Pixza: Unique pizzas with a blue corn base and all-Mexican ingredients.
Not only can you try these unique pizzas, but you'll also contribute to the social reintegration of young people facing hardship in this city.

By Alejandro Pohlenz
It's 2015. One man met another. The first is named Alejandro Souza and grew up in a middle-class family. He did not lack for anything, neither hunger nor cold. The second is Joe, a 50-year-old person who has lived on the streets of this megacity for most of his life. The typical thing is that, if you see a "homeless" person on the street, the first thing that happens is that we are afraid (don't deny it). Quickly, you take out a 10-peso coin, give it to him and walk away. The stark socioeconomic differences are not your problem.
Empowerment of young people
My namesake did not give him the coin. He told himself that it was his problem and hired him. He had the idea of making a pizzeria and employing young people "with a profile of social abandonment." The name of his business is Pixza. And, basically, the idea is not only to give them work at Pixza but to apply a 12-month program they call "the route of change" that allows their "social reintegration" (meaning that they no longer live on the street and that they "function" as productive and fulfilled adults).
Not content with "empowering" (making strong a person from a disadvantaged social group) the marginalized youth of this city, he designed pizzas that some users define as extravagant. Just look: the base of the pizza is made with blue corn and all the ingredients are also very Mexican. (The blue hue of corn comes from "anthocyanins," a type of antioxidant).
What are the pizzas made of?
The star pixza is the one with grasshoppers, but there is the María Julia (with cheese and epazote), the Polly, with hibiscus flower, the Ray with squash blossom and huitlacoche; the Chepe with mushrooms and poblano pepper, the romantic one that contains cochinita pibil, the Guro, with cecina, the Chocho with barbacoa, the gringa (with pastor and pineapple) and the desquitada (with esquites), among others.
Before ordering you must choose one of the sauces: tomato (tomato, chipotle, hoja santa and spices) or the black (creamy bean sauce with serrano pepper).
Congratulations to Pixza and a sincere recognition to Mr. Alejandro.
