The Food Police guide to pet friendly hotels / Rojo Manglar, a hotel in Pie de la Cuesta, where pets are truly welcome.
Faviola, my friend and Depa de Soltera´s very own, used to say: "having your dog with you only on the terrace is not the same as being pet friendly".

A restaurant that allows pets to JUST be in outdoor areas (even if it's chilly or raining outside), is not precisely the friendliest thing.
And while, admittedly, leisure venues like restaurants and hotels are meant to be primarily human-friendly, those who enjoy their furry friends' company always appreciate a place where they can enjoy themselves too and not just lie at the foot of a chair.
How does a pet-friendly hotel actually work?
Rojo Manglar is a family-owned waterfront hotel right on the Coyuca Lagoon, in the Pie de la Cuesta area, a few minutes west of the Acapulco metropolitan area. This small 7-room hotel welcomes any well-behaved pet. Their owners are asked to keep them on a leash during their stay, but if you are lucky enough to have a well-behaved dog, you can let it loose with confidence that the entire staff will treat it with love and even call them by name. Of course, your pet is also welcome to stay in your room with you; just make sure to clean up after them.
Pups will love running around the cozy hotel’s gardens and sniffing away at anything in their path. If they’re up for a swim, head to the quaint shore of Coyuca Lagoon by Zuljaa,Rojo Manglar's adults-only beach club. Brought the kids as well? Enjoy the family pool right next to the restaurant.
What about the food?
Let's talk about the food. This is "Food Police", afterall, not "Hotel Police". Rojo Manglar’s small, but very accommodating restaurant serves regional specialties, such as pescadillas, garlic-fried mojarra, ceviches and “sopecitos acapulqueños” along with other beachside favorites like aguachiles, pizza and the timeless classic - burger and french fry combo - to go with that summer vibe of kids jumping in the pool. This spot is open for breakfast through lunch; Dining out you will find simple, homey eateries run mostly by the town’s matriarchs dishing out savory “antojitos” from their kitchens. The bar pours classic cocktails and some of their own creations along with a healthy wine selection to relax the day away.
The million dollar question: what about the recent hurricane? Rojo Manglar, with a lot of team effort, managed to reopen just two months after Hurricane Otis hit Guerrero’s shores. Today the hotel is, once again, a family-friendly, all-welcoming beachfront heaven meant to enjoy with your furry friend, the kids or, why not? Yourself. The best way to support Acapulco's reconstruction is to visit.
