This tiny restaurant with pizza and Italian food is one of those that could be unnoticed when you walk in the Roma neighborhood.

It is not exaggerated and it doesn’t yell that is “Authentic Italian”, there’s no figures of mustachioed chefs at the entrance or red and white checkered tablecloths. But a look at the  menu will give us some clues: fresh pasta, ravioles with butter and sage (a classic dish but not easy to find). Also, if you pay attention, you will see a place full of locals.


They say that love is born from sight, but no one said that love born from pizza. Gabriela, mexican and Davide, italian, founders and chefs of Doppio, met a few years ago, (if you ask me I don't know exactly how many years) living up to the cliché, they fell in love and now they run this little italian restaurant where the dishes are surprising and the prices, very affordable, are appreciated.



Although he is an industrial engineer by profession, Davide worked many years at restaurants. With that experience he set out to create a proposal that make his countrymen proud and where he was willing to eat every day. Out of respect for his origins, he decided that all the recipes will be authentics, so in addition to using ingredients and methods brought from the old continent, he doesn’t make versions of his dishes adapted to Mexican taste. This is a restaurant that offers serious Italian food.

History of roman pizza

Roman pizza has its roots in ancient Rome, where flatbreads where develop with different ingredients.  Pizza in its modern shape began to evolve in the Lazio region, Italia, in the XVIII century. In this period, the roman  working classes begin to add tomatoes to flatbreads, creating a combination that resembles today’s pizza. As the availability of ingredients increased, in the 19th century, roman pizza became even more consolidated, by adopting a thinner and crispier base.

What are the differences between Roman pizza and Neapolitan pizza?

Roman pizza remained rooted in the tradition of using simple and local  ingredients. Unlike Neapolitan pizza which tends to be more elaborate in terms of toppings, roman pizza focuses on enhancing the flavor of basic ingredients such as olive oil, fresh tomatoes and aromatic herbs. In contrast to Neapolitan, roman pizza is characterized by its thin and crispy base, similar to a thin bread dough. It is lighter and at DopioZero they serve it alla pala.

Must-haves we love

Ravioles with sage butter, a dish with delicate flavors that is not found everywhere.

What we don't like so much

The terrace is on a busy street. If car smoke bothers you, better ask for a table inside.

Prices in the area are usually much higher than those offered by Doppio. This is a place away from the hype of the Roma neighborhood where everyone is welcome.
