Old Money Restaurants in Mexico City / Loma Linda, a Steakhouse with a Hundred Years of History.

What started as a cafeteria and dance hall in the first half of the 20th century transformed in March 1956 into the classic steakhouse we know today.

Founded in 1924, in the heart of Las Lomas, with a century-long trajectory, Loma Linda claims to be the first to grill meat over charcoal in Mexico City.

José del Moral Gadsden purchased the establishment in March 1944, and during a trip to the southern continent, his path crossed with that of an Argentine gaucho. The gaucho, a master of the culinary tradition of his land, introduced José to the world of Argentine grills, teaching him about meat cuts and the art of empanadas. Loma Linda shares that this is how Don José introduced Argentine cuisine to Mexico.

“La Tablita,” as the regulars affectionately call it, started with a carefully selected range of meats, empanadas, and salads, evoking the essence of an authentic Argentine table. Loma Linda Reforma boasts having the best meat cuts in Mexico. Picanha, rib eye, bife de chorizo, sirloin, and skirt steak. The ideal accompaniment for your cuts are small onions, little chili peppers, an order of well-browned thick-cut bacon, and creamed spinach. All of this has been served, since the opening times, on a wooden board, the reason behind the nickname given by the diners.

Now, you can also find fish, seafood, and traditional breakfasts, like Yecapixtla dried beef or the classic chilaquiles with machaca, becoming a meeting point for both business breakfasts and memorable dinners. There are three dishes you must try: the bacon, the rib eye, and the clericot.

“The vast majority of our clients know us because their parents brought them here since they were little. A few days ago, one of our suppliers told me that his grandparents had their civil ceremony at the restaurant, and there are many stories like this,” Pablo Sosa, one of the restaurant's owners, tells Cava Morada.

This restaurant also features a premium cellar that honors the gastronomic proposal of the restaurant, with labels from countries like Spain, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, and Australia. The service is very professional, elegant, and personalized.
